Russia Takes Additional Defense Measures for Sevastopol Port

Russia has implemented additional defensive measures to protect the Sevastopol military port in response to recent Ukrainian drone and sea vehicle attacks.

Russia has enhanced the defense of Sevastopol military port by adding new protective layers following an October 29 drone and sea vehicle attack by Ukraine, which caused significant damage.

According to defense analyst HI Sutton, Russia has introduced a floating explosive barrier to restrict the movement of unmanned naval and aerial vehicles within the port's perimeter.

  • The attack resulted in major explosions and fires, targeting several Russian naval vessels, including the Admiral Grigorovich-class frigate and other combat ships stationed at the port.
  • Following the attack, Russia admitted minor damage to the Ivan Golubets mine countermeasure vessel but denied significant losses, claiming 9 UAVs and 7 unmanned sea vehicles were involved in the assault.
  • The war in the Black Sea has seen Ukraine utilizing TB-2 drones and missiles to strike Russian naval assets, including the Moskva cruiser, which sank after being hit by Ukrainian land-based anti-ship missiles.
  • Russia's maneuvers in the Black Sea have visibly changed, with warships conducting patrols further offshore and removing hull numbers to avoid identification after previous attacks.
  • Ukraine has demonstrated its capability to challenge Russian naval dominance, striking ports such as Berdyansk and targeting amphibious landing ships, forcing Russia to adopt more cautious strategies.
