Karasu Port, the New Trade Hub of the Black Sea, Celebrates Its 6th Anniversary
IC Karasu Port, celebrating its 6th anniversary, continues to expand its services, becoming a key logistics hub for import and export companies.
Since its opening in 2017, Karasu Port has facilitated trade worth approximately $8.97 billion with over 40 countries across five continents, playing a crucial role in Turkey’s economy.
Initially serving only general cargo, the port expanded its operations with Ro-Ro services in 2019, becoming an important gateway for trade with Ukraine, Russia, and Central Asian countries.
- In 2021, the port handled 50,000 Ro-Ro units, achieving a milestone. Despite challenges posed by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, alternative solutions helped sustain trade operations.
- The port aims to transform into a 'logistics center,' with future investments focusing on infrastructure expansion, additional piers, storage facilities, and improved rail connections.
- Karasu Port has handled 1,755 ships since its opening, with total cargo volume reaching 6.75 million tons, making it one of Turkey's most efficient Black Sea trade hubs.
- The port supports regional employment, indirectly providing jobs to thousands of people while alleviating road and maritime traffic pressure on Istanbul.
- The port primarily exports limestone, clinker, and steel coils, with Ukraine, the US, and Romania being the top export destinations. Wheat, corn, and soy are the top imported commodities.
