Galataport Istanbul Participates in Seatrade Cruise Global
Galataport Istanbul has participated in Seatrade Cruise Global, the world's most significant cruise industry event, presenting its innovations and unique terminal structure.
Galataport Istanbul, a source of inspiration for similar projects abroad, has transformed the city's historic port into a world-class cruise terminal and cultural hub. It joined Seatrade Cruise Global, one of the industry's leading events.
Taking place from April 25-28 in Miami, the event hosts 643 exhibitors from 113 countries. Galataport Istanbul's Port Operations Deputy General Manager and MedCruise President, Figen Ayan, presented insights into the port’s innovations.
- By the end of 2022, Galataport Istanbul is expected to welcome around 200 cruise ships and approximately 750,000 passengers, with a long-term goal of 1.5 million annual passengers, positioning it as a key cruise hub.
- The port can accommodate some of the world's largest cruise ships, such as Oasis-class vessels carrying over 8,000 passengers. Its strategic location enhances connectivity from the Mediterranean to the Black Sea.
- Galataport Istanbul features the world's first underground cruise terminal, spanning 29,000 m² with a special cover system. This innovation allows the historic Karaköy coastline to remain open to visitors when no ships are docked.
- The port contributes significantly to Turkey’s economy. Cruise tourists are estimated to spend between 400-600 Euros per visit, significantly higher than the average spending of regular tourists.
- Galataport Istanbul has been recognized for sustainability, holding a LEED Platinum certification. It received the 'Environmental Responsibility Award' from MedCruise and was acknowledged for its commitment during the pandemic.
