
Mersin Free Zone Achieves Historic Trade Volume Record
Mersin Free Zone achieved a record-breaking trade volume of $4 billion in 2022, marking the highest figure since its establishment in 1987.
In 2022, Mersin Free Zone set a new record with a trade volume of $4 billion, the highest achieved in its 35-year history since its founding in 1987.
With a 19% increase in trade volume and a 9% rise in employment compared to 2021, Mersin Free Zone continues to contribute significantly to the national and regional economy.
MESBAŞ Chairman Ali Avcı announced that the total trade volume since the zone’s establishment has reached $75.2 billion, with the 2022 figure surpassing all previous records.
The free zone, home to 393 companies, primarily trades in industrial and agricultural products, with top trading partners including the US, Iraq, Egypt, Italy, and China.
Mersin Free Zone achieved a record port cargo handling volume of 1.8 million tons in 2022, representing a 14% increase from the previous year.
Operating at full capacity, the zone benefits from its strategic location near the Eastern Mediterranean’s largest port, providing key logistical advantages.
Plans are underway to establish a second free zone in Silifke’s Taşucu Port to meet the growing demand for investment and trade opportunities.
